A Visit to
Happier Times

When the ground
feels shaky and your life feels somewhat unstable, that's the time
to surround yourself with secure anchors. By secure anchors, I'm
referring to anything that you can see, hear, smell, taste or touch
that feels comforting and reminds you of a happy, blissful time in
your life.
My husband and
I spent much of this day watching CNN report on the US bombing in
Afghanistan. I will admit that my feeling of uneasiness grew and grew
as the day wore on. Finally, remembering that my feelings come DIRECTLY
out of what I am focused on, (hellooooo!) I realized that I could,
in fact, change the channel! I flipped over to PBS and there, to
my delight and amazement, was an old rerun of the Ed Sullivan Show!
I remember as
a young girl watching that show every Sunday night of my life. And
as I sang along tonight with Ricky Nelson, I felt 15 again. I felt
silly and carefree and happy.
Do you have a
favorite sweatshirt that you've had forever? How about a cherished
family photo? Do you have an old movie that you bought on video that
you absolutely love? Like maybe It's a Wonderful Life.
Perhaps you have a Beatles CD or Frank Sinatra or Sting. Whatever
works for you.
Look around. Those
secure anchors are there. Just waiting to be dusted off and enjoyed
again. You can go back to those happy times. Maybe only for a visit
- but you can go back.
