The Job With
a Capital "J"

My belief is that
we are all here because we are supposed to learn, grow and make some
kind of a positive difference on this planet. With that in mind, I
think I finally figured out what my Job (with a capital "J")
is.
I think I am a
professional "Reminder". Yup. That's what I'm supposed to
do. Remind us all of things that, let's face it, we probably already
know we should do, but don't always actually DO. For instance: We
KNOW it is better to give than to receive. We sometimes forget. We
KNOW it is important to actually create quality time to spend with
family members. We don't always create it. And we absolutely KNOW
that while we cannot always choose what happens to us in life, we
can definitely choose how we respond to what happens. Yet how many
times do we blame others, beat up ourselves, or curse our wretched
fate when things don't go our way? For me - the answer is...too often.
And why do we
keep doing those things? I believe it's because as human beings we
truly are creatures of habit. Doesn't the research tell us that as
much as 95% of all of our behavior is automatic and unthinking? That
should scare you! I know it does me!
So until I can
change decades of self-defeating, unproductive, unhealthy patterns
of thought and behavior with one simple positive declaration or wave
of the hand, I will continue to surround myself with MY reminders.
For me, they are:
1. Every Sunday I listen to the minister of my Church who REMINDS
me of who I am and how I want to live my life.
2. Every day I read a chapter in a really good book or a great article
in a magazine that REMINDS me how to communicate better or love more
unconditionally or treat the planet more respectfully.
3. At least once a week I talk to one of my really healthy, smart,
loving friends (like Lynette, Shivan, Karen, or Peggy) who REMINDS
me of what's really important.
These are just
a few of the reminders that I MUST have around me so that I can live
any kind of a conscious life. Who, or what, are your reminders?
I am indeed grateful
if I perform that function for you. If you ever read one of my articles
and say, "Oh yeah, I know that. I just forgot" - then I
am doing my Job with a capital "J."
And you know what
they say: "We teach the things we need to learn." Thank
you for helping me learn!
