Be My Valentine!

I firmly believe that our success in life is directly proportionate to the quality of our relationships. I therefore believe that building and strengthening relationships should be of paramount importance to all of us. What follows is one more way to do just that, whether you are trying to enhance your connection to your customers, your coworkers, your friends or your family.

Send Valentines!

Most of us are pretty good at sending cards during the major holiday times: Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza. That's nice, but the challenge is that because we get such a deluge of them, they all blend together and the impact is diminished. Why not stand out and let people know how much you value them all at the same time.

You don't have to send those big, expensive ones. Send the kind that you get in the package of 100. The little ones that you sent to your classmates in the 3rd grade. They are fun to receive! And here's an interesting fact: a survey conducted by Britt Beemer for American Demographics found that 70.1% of respondents would switch to a different vendor if the company was more fun to do business with.

Right now, make a list of all the people whom you appreciate, like or value. The ones who make you laugh, who frequently have a kind word to say just when you need it the most. A coworker who has gone out of her way to help you in the past. A family member that you haven't spoken to in a while. A really good customer - or one you WANT to be a really good customer.

All you need to put at the bottom of the card is something like, "Just wanted to let you know how much I value and appreciate you." Send them today - or place them on people's desks when they are not looking.

Wow. Blow 'em away!

Please don't talk yourself out of this action with statements like, "Oh that's stupid" or "That won't do any good." Remember that great piece of wisdom: "Successful people are willing to do what unsuccessful people aren't willing to do."

I’ll conclude now with a question: Will you be my Valentine?
