Positively Speaking In March!

Words That Don't Work, "I already told you this."

Just don't say it.  If you think you did tell them - what do you hope to accomplish by reminding them that you did?  Clearly they don't remember it, and pointing out that they forgot can only serve to make them feel bad, stupid or downright idiotic.

Another Case for Empathy
It's true!  Research from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health reveals that patients whose doctors show concern and caring recover from colds faster.  AND the doctors' empathy also boosted the patients' immune systems.
So why not spread your healing powers around by showing caring and compassion to as many people as possible?  Talk about leaving the world a better place!

And Speaking of Healing Powers

This is a picture of me recovering last December from my second foot surgery.  I was instructed to stay OFF my feet for 5 full days - and look who wouldn't leave my side!  That's Pino, Lulu and Phoebe.  They made me feel VERY loved and protected while I recovered!  It was hard to focus on my discomfort, with their little happy selves in my lap! So if you get sick, call your furry friends to your side!

Wake-Up You Sleepy Head!

Have trouble waking up in the morning?  Hit that snooze button too many times?  Try this.  From MSN.com - put a tin of ginger or peppermint flavored Altoids beside your alarm clock. When the alarm starts screaming, pop one or two of them into your mouth before hitting the snooze button. It's virtually impossible to sleep with that "curiously strong" taste dancing around in your mouth!

To Wake Up Refreshed - Try This One!

Ok.  There are no guarantees here, but if you have an iPhone (which I do) there is an application from Apple called Sleep Cycle that is pretty darned amazing.  You launch the app and then put your phone on your bed next to you.  It measures your sleep cycles from awake to deep (REM) sleep, up and down, as they occur all night.  Then you give your alarm a half hour window during which to wake you (like say 6:30 to 7:00 a.m.) and it will wait until you are in the lightest part of a cycle to wake you up.
Result?  You wake up feeling more refreshed and alert.  I've read lots of positive reviews on it and my son uses it and says it is absolutely amazing.  Sadly, since it cannot be used with a Tempur-Pedic bed, I am unable to test it myself.

SHEILD & SWITCH - A Dynamic Duo

I am frequently asked for strategies to deal with negative people who seem "out to get you."  The other one that I get asked about a LOT is how to handle the fear that comes up in life that sometimes leaves us immobilized and unable to act.  Here's a pair of beauties that might help.

ONE:  When you feel all that disdain coming from (let's say, him) toward you - or SEE that look in his face, immediately put up your SHIELD!  Just like in Star Wars or one of those high tech movies, just visualize your entire self surrounded by a thick, clear, impenetrable shield.  You can actually SEE his hatred bounce off the shield.  You can feel safe, untouchable.  Breathe and feel safe.  It almost makes you want to smile!

TWO:  When you feel the fear come up - SWITCH!  Switch your focus away FROM the fear of the unknown or your worst case fears (what you DON'T want) TO what you DO want.  SEE yourself in the future with this absolutely FABULOUS feeling of joy and happiness.  FEEL the beautiful and comforting feeling of LOVE that is coming at you from so many angles - from whatever work you are doing, from your friends and family who surround you with SO much support, and from your soul mate.  And remember, your soul mate can either be IN your life in this future picture or not.  But if he is not physically there - just feel his presence.   Because he is ON HIS WAY TOWARD YOU!  He is on a path to you - just as you are on a path toward him.

So - SHIELD AND SWITCH!
