Motivational Speaker And Actor On How to Sound Spontaneous

By Linda Larsen - Thursday, October 22, 2015

Yes, I am a motivational speaker now, but for over twenty-five years I was a professional card-carrying actor in film, television and on stages throughout the U.S. As an actor, it was my job to make my words sound as if I was saying them for the very first time – even when, in the case of a live stage production, it was the 100th time I'd said them. I'm a motivational speakerby profession, which means my job is to help you get what you want out of life. And if I am totally honest, the fact is that sometimes I forget to actually do some of the things I have suggested to people. I'm a motivational speaker - which means I'm going to tell you to love yourself no matter what. I even published an audio series entitled 12 Secrets to High Self-Esteem wherein I go into great detail about exactly how to do that. But here's the deal. Like all fantastic ideas that will change your life for the better, while they may be SIMPLE, they are not always EASY. In fact, this very morning I found myself looking in the mirror and snarling at my...okay, here it comes...back fat.

The Million Dollar Secret to Business Success

I am pitiful when it comes to hanging on to prescription glasses. Absolutely pitiful. In the last month I bought FOUR pair of prescription glasses. One for distance, one for reading and two sunglasses. And in the same month, I lost BOTH pair of the sunglasses - one on an airplane (motivational speakers fly a LOT!) and the other one, I think, grew legs and ran away from home. Regardless, yesterday it was time to go BACK to Lenscrafters and get another pair of prescription sunglasses. I was not happy. I did not want to spend more money. I was grinding my teeth all the way there.

Feeling Crappy? Put on a Wacky Hat

Okay - so I am a motivational speaker NOW - but I used to be a professional actress, performing on stages in lots of plays where the characters were VERY colorful and the costumes were straight from periods of long ago.  I remember rehearsing for weeks learning all the nuances of my character, but it wasn't until we started rehearsing in costumes - that the magic really began to happen.  I remember playing the role of Celia in As You Like It and what happened when I first put on the costume. From the moment I put them on, there was something about that dress, and that lovely little hair piece that made me FEEL like the character.
